Champions League Final: Liverpool and Tottenham fans have gone to extreme lengths to ensure they don’t miss out on Saturday Champions League final 2019 in Madrid. Saturday will become another treasured day for one of the biggest clubs in England.
Champions League Final 2019
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has lost the last six cup finals in his coaching career, including a Europa League loss three seasons ago and a loss in last year’s Champions League final. And given that the Reds just completed the best non-league winning season in the history of the Premier League, the pressure is certainly on Liverpool.
Tottenham is on a trophy drought of 11 seasons, last winning the domestic League Cup in 2008. Across Europe, the Spurs have not won a competition since 1984 in what is now the Europa League. And despite a sterling reputation for a top-six club that has not spent on the on-field product as much as its peers, Mauricio Pochettino has not won the Premier League and is only in his second cup final with Tottenham.
Both clubs made stunning comebacks to claw into the final. Tottenham scored three goals in the final 35 minutes of the tie in the Netherlands to shock Ajax, while Liverpool flipped a three-goal deficit into a 4-3 victory in its cup tie against Barcelona.
Tens of thousands of English fans have travelled to the Spanish capital for Saturday’s final between Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool after both teams made comebacks in the semi-finals.A record number of flights were expected over the weekend to ferry fans from the UK to the match.
While the Anfield side are five-time champions of Europe, Tottenham have never enjoyed such a high and indeed manager Mauricio Pochettino has no previous experience of winning silverware, let alone such a storied trophy.
The Reds go into the game seeking to shake off the ghosts of Kiev, where they defeated 3-1 at the same stage last season by Real Madrid, with goalkeeper Lorus Karius’ blunders ensuring they had a night to forget.
